Darcy's pre-engagement   Written by Mandy N (1/23/2004 9:45 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Regarding Mr. Wickham, penned by Geri-Lynn
Are you new?

In Ch. 16 there is a something in Lizzy and Wickham's conversation that puzzles me. He mentions Miss de Bourgh "and it is believed that she and her cousin will unite the two estates" Lizzy smiled when she thought of Caroline Bingley's efforts. But that confuses me. If Wickham knew of the familial arrangement, then surely Caroline knew of Darcy's family engagement via her brother? Can anyone help me understand why she is obviously aiming to claim Darcy as husband if he has a pre-engagement?
