I cringe every time I read Elizabeth preparing for the Netherfield ball with romantic thoughts of Wickham.

"Her heart had been but slightly touched, and her vanity was satisfied with believing that she would have been his only choice, had fortune permitted it."

She wasn't hurt, but Elizabeth actually thought of Wickham in that way. In this case, thank goodness for small dowries...
