]Maybe AD was trying to convey just how besotted with Jane he is that he forgets all his social obligations to be with her.

There's no room in his mind for anything but her! So he is rude, but we can all forgive him now. Especially since his sisters are going to lecture him on incivility as soon as they get him alone, and that's punishment enough for anyone.
