]Seems to me these two remarks were a small indication of his growing fascination with her.

My spin on Darcy's response to the inquiry regarding his sister's height was to put down Caroline's pretension by using Lizzy as his yardstick. Of course it shows that he has made some little effort in thinking about Lizzy...
