]Other than the argument of whether Darcy is shy, Lizzy's subconscious attraction, or lack thereof, is probably the topic most likely to put people in a twist. I'm not trying to discourage you, just letting you know. ;-)

I see no reason to argue - I think the relm of Pemberley is big enough to shelter everyone's favorite take on the situation. That is what makes the story so interesting as that so many layers can be examined and taken differently.

]The people of Meryton in general did seem to accept Wickham at face value. I don't think Lizzy was unique in this.

Of course, that is a great point - and it would be rather catch 22 - that without Darcy in the story - there would be no dirt for Wickum to try and dig up and Lizzy to latch onto. But I'd like think that Lizzy would quickly find him shallow if they had met otherwise without all the diversions. One can always have hope!
