Mischievous smile   Written by Glenn (1/20/2004 1:17 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, P&P2 Ep2 - A strange smile, penned by Val B
Are you new?

I believe the explanation for Lizzy's smile can be found in the text: They stood for some time without speaking a word; and she began to imagine that their silence was to last through the two dances, and at first was resolved not to break it; till suddenly fancying that it would be the greater punishment to her partner to oblige him to talk, she made some slight observation on the dance. In the novel, the initial thought and the action are in the same sentence.

In the film, she suddenly smiles at the thought of torturing Mr. Darcy, her smile fades a bit, and she thinks of what to say before talking to him. The smile you refer to starts at 7:09 (minutes and seconds) into chapter 10 on the P&P2 special edition DVD. In the next cut, she is still smiling, though not as strongly. She actually starts talking to Mr. Darcy at 7:32.
