of course Darcy had a fault -- pride, he was not faultless, and he certainly needed to change and improve his manners, to behave with more patience and forbearance to people he met in society, especially those slightly lower than him on the social scale, and those who are not clever and who may be tiresome. But his essential character -- honesty, generosity and kindness to the really poor and to his dependants -- has always been good. He did not need Eliz or anyone to reform him in essentials.
