This letter, which is both quoted & paraphrased by Mr Bennet, has to be one of the best examples of a letter revealing some of the behind-the-scenes info. And, it also reveals to the reader that Charlotte is pregnant (which, seeing as it didn't surprise Elizabeth, must not have been the first announcement of that news).
The Lucases, presumably, told the Collinses about Jane's engagement AND mentioned the likelihood that Elizabeth would soon marry Mr Darcy. Mr Collins
I thought it my duty to give the speediest intelligence of this to my cousin, that she and her noble admirer may be aware of what they are about, and not run hastily into a marriage which has not been properly sanctioned.
Mr Collins's duties extend all the way to Longbourne, it seems, and even includes his concern "that [Lydia & Wickham] living together before the marriage took place should be so generally known" -- when he was one of the people who made sure that Lady C & daughter were informed of it!!!
Mr Collins is really delightful to know, literarily, and this letter is very special. :-)
