Of all people, Darcy would want the whole-hearted approval of his closest living relation Georgiana as to whom he marries. I cannot imagine him NOT mentioning Elizabeth to his sister.
I don't think the reader should ever underestimate the determination and singular desire that a man has for the woman he loves and MUST have above all else, in spite of the seeming hopelessness of the present situation. There is hardly anything in all of creation as powerful as that. (As far as the persistence of love and longing go, Captain Wentworth comes immediately to mind as a comparison)
