|Perhaps he mentioned Elizabeth to her earlier?

in consequence of the missive, I wondered the same thing...why would he talk about E, penned by Stacey GC
Maybe Darcy told Georgiana about Elizabeth after he had left Meryton, but before he visited Lady Catherine. During that time, he was beginning to fall for Elizabeth, and fancied that he was in love with her.
But that still wouldn't make sense either. Because during that time, he considered Elizabeth beneath him and thought he was in no danger of really falling in love with her.
So, perhaps Darcy just thought, "I think Elizabeth would be a wonderful friend for Georgiana." (definitely better than Caroline!) Or perhaps, as has been mentioned, he just needed an excuse to spend more time with her. :-)
