in consequence of the missive, Darcy's prime objective..., penned by Jim Morris
His sisters had no control over Bingley. He didn't even consult Caro, who was acting as his hostess, before announcing a ball at Netherfield. It was only Darcy who could control Bingley, that is why in the book it was Darcy who spoke to Bingley. P&P2 may give the wrong impression, it also made Caro appear old and unattractive (when the book says she is handsome), and turned her into an older sister instead of "his younger sister" who was referred to as an "insolent girl" by Eliz.
