in consequence of the missive, Jane going to London, penned by bridget d
that if she happened to meet Bingley in London, something may come out of it? If she was that afraid of giving an impression that she was "chasing him", she should have stayed home at Longbourn, or at the very least, not contacted Caroline Bingley.
It is only after Caroline lies to her that Bingley knows she is in London does she write to Lizzy stating: I cannot but wonder, however, at her having any such fears now, because, if he had at all cared about me, we must have met long, long ago. He knows of my being in town, I am certain, from something she said herself
Therefore, Jane must have reasoned that if there was a remote chance that Bingley still cared for her, he must have come to see her at the very least.
