that if he proposed Jane might be pressured by her mother to accept him even though she did not love him. And there can be no doubt that Mrs Bennet would have done exactly that - she certainly put enough pressure on Elizabeth over Mr Collins. No sane man would want to have a wife who had to be coerced into marrying him - even Mr Collins did not entirely like that idea.
