... Darcy was led to observe closely Bingley's behavior because Sir William informed him of the common view. Not until then did Bingley's closest friend begin to suspect that he was more than usually attentive to Jane. Yes, Darcy was busy watching Lizzy and resisting his own fall, but he'd had plenty of time to observe both, and find no particular partiality on Jane's part, and little more than ordinary attraction on Bingley's part.
