Bingley was just having one of his many flights of romantic fantasy, but rather that his "partiality for Miss Bennet was beyond what I had ever witnessed in him." Ch. 35. And why do you think Bingley would return or have any communication with Jane after he had given her up? If you are suggesting that Bingley wasn't really much in love with Jane, I will have to disagree. It is evident that when Lizzy and Bingley meet at Lambton, Bingley still cherishes feelings for Jane.
