in consequence of the missive, Chapter 40: Elizabeth's concern for Jane, penned by kathleen (elder)
I love how tenderly Miss Austen highlights the relationship between Jane and Elizabeth. She does it again in S & S with Elinor and Marianne. The author treats these relationships with such heart-felt familiarity, I believe, because of her own very close relationship with her sister Cassandra.
It is such a special unique relationship that men (even if they're brothers) cannot really enter into. My wife is the eldest of four sisters; My two youngest granddaughters are sisters aged 5 and 4. They are already manifesting that special magical relationship. They will bicker and argue with each other but heaven forbid that someone else would dare admonish or chastise one without the other one coming to her defense!
