in consequence of the missive, at Pemberley, penned by Nikki N
"Love based on gratitude, esteem and respect is not a strange love for JA, on the contrary, I think JA distrusted love based on mere passion and physical attraction, and felt that the best, most steady love was that which has foundations on esteem, respect and gratitude."
Exactly. JA notes that Eliz did become attracted to Wickham based on hsi good looks and charming manners, but that that was not a real love, and it was not with a good person. With Darcy, she learned gradually that he was a good person, noticed his faults and that he was (by the time of Pemberley) trying to work on them and improve, and that she liked his company and found herself drawn to him. It is the best sort of love.
