in consequence of the missive, It also shows the risks Darcy was willing to take to..., penned by Cathy Allen
that El;izabeth was a person who could be seduced and abandoned by Wickham or anyone else, he would hardly want her for a wife. I am quite sure his belief in her virtue is absolute. I think he is trying to protect her from is the possibility of her falling deeply in love with Wickham and being as deeply hurt when he abandons her to pursue some richer girl or flees Meryton pursued by debt-collectors. We know that Wickham has already abandoned Elizabeth to chase Mary King's £10,000 and she was not really hurt by it, but Darcy doesn't. It speaks well from him that rather than hope she she will be hurt as she has hurt him, he wants to protect her and will trust her with his sister's sreputation to do it.
