yes, and I think to JA being involved in the social round meant being generally civil to everyone, but did not mean being generally friendly. Darcy need not be as friendly as Bingley to be civil in society. (In Emma, Mr Knightley was civil to everyone, while Mr Weston was friendly with everyone, and Mr Knightley is the superior character. In S&S, Marianne, after her recovery, realized that she had neglected her duties of civility to acquaintances).
