Exactly - he DOES assure Bingley that Jane does not return his feelings.. he is convinced that he is right on this...He has pointed out that from a "worldly" point of view the marriage isnt the most prudent B could make, ie Janes connextions are not as high as some women's... and when that does not dissuade Bingley, D tells him that he's sure J does not return his affeciotn. So it seems to me that he's trying his best, one way or another, to stop the match...If pointing out that B cuodl do better from a worldly POV doesn't work, he tries saying that he doesn't beleive that J cares about Bingley..
