she is but a mirror, an image of what Darcy could be.

in consequence of the missive, Chap 29: we meet Lady Catherine, penned by kathleen (elder)
Bingley has no grand family name and so carries no weight.
Lady Catherine is an example of the concept of the grand lord, visions of the Tudors. Once they could abuse the peasants freely but that is slowly being suppressed. Now all she can do is berate them.
Her talents are meager so she prefers to rein unchallenged in the countryside.
I have a lot of sympathy for her. Being a widow with rich estates could not have been easy in the Regency. It would be so easy for her lawyer to rob her blind.
Imagine Mrs. B installed as sole possessor of Rosings!
Lady C has her foibles and I am glad I am not related but I will give her points.
I wonder what part she will play in this story.
It seems that everyone (at least Wickham and he would have told everyone else) that Darcy was intended to marry Anne. We shall see.
