What an incredibly strong personality she has. :-) JA has been building our knowledge of her Ladyship since Chapter 13 (when Mr Collins mentioned her in his letter).
Mr Collins's praise has nearly the opposite effect that he would wish, but in addition to Lady Catherine having questionable judgement of an appropriate man for the living she bestowed, we soon find out that she is Mr Darcy's Aunt. On my first read, I did not like Darcy, so I was sure his aunt must be awful (especially since Wickham didn't like her either and described her as having "dictatorial and insolent" manners).
So what do we find when we get to hear her speak? She is an overbearing snoop and a know-it-all -- she does have "dictatorial and insolent" manners, so Wickham got that description exactly right.
One of my favourite bits is at the end of Chapter 29:
The party then gathered round the fire to hear Lady Catherine determine what weather they were to have on the morrow.
Hmm -- does this mean that Lady Catherine is a meteorologist or a prophetess (or maybe a wizard)? =8-D
