I do think Wickham intended to flatter her. What I meant (which I wasn’t clear about - sorry) is that choosing a trait she’s proud of (her judgment of people) may have been more luck than intention since he doesn’t know much about her at this point.
I think Darcy may feel that he pays Elizabeth the “compliment of rational debate” rather than flattery which I tend to think of as a bit more superficial. –It’s an interesting comparison to consider.
