Complete stranger (who didn't want to dance and only did so twice with the Bingley sisters) makes that insulting?
yes it did. If he hadn't danced at all, that would mean that he really didn't like dancing, and while it woudl still be foolsih to go to a dance, and a bit rude to the local ladies, it wasn't as rude as dancing ONLY iwth teh 2 women of his own party. He was in efect saying "Your women aren't good enough for me, but Im willing to dance with the Bingley women". He was leaving ladies unpartnered, a real gentleman would have taken on a few wallflowers out of chivalry if nothing else.
