Jane and Eliz were NOT vulgar young women who would go chasing after men! it was Bingley who made his admiration for Jane obvious, and Jane was still being modest, discreet and reserved. At this point, no man was making his admiration for Eliz obvious, Darcy was hiding it, and Col Forster was not interested either, since we're told in chap 12 that he was probably engaged already.
