We see evidence of quirky spelling in these first few chapters. I don’t know the scholarly explanation of all this about a few thoughts come to mind. She could have mis-spelt the odd word and the editors did not catch it. There could have been typos missed by the proof readers. And probably the most common reason is that words were spelt differently then.
I am intrigued by the Z instead of S in “teazing” (Ch 6). I confess I was not aware of the US preference for Z instead of S in many words till I found myself being red underlined or autocorrected constantly. So here we have an interesting use of Z 200 years ago.
