in consequence of the missive, Tomboyish heroines, penned by Therese
that she only resorted to walking because "the carriage was not to be had" (horses wanted on the farm again?) and she is no horsewoman (Why isn't she? Will we find out or forever wonder?). Also Elizabeth would have allowed herself to be persuaded to return home in the Bingley carriage had not Miss Bingley been obliged by Jane's reluctance to part with her sister to invite Elizabeth to stay. So, though probably she is an active young lady, going on a 3-mile muddy hike was not her first choice in either direction. Perhaps not that much of a tomboy?
