in consequence of the missive, I think, penned by Kathleen Glancy
Darcy wanted to listen to more of Elizabeth's lively conversation. I get the impression he is almost nervous about conversing with her himself. As a shy person I can personally understand this, but I can't see Darcy being particularly shy. Even if he is so naturally, he must have been around people enough to overcome most of it. Could shyness be a reason he is so standoffish with others, or is it wholly pride? I find myself asking this same question each time I read the book, yet I can never find a satisfactory answer. :-)
