Mr Darcy and Jane Fairfax

"I wonder how Darcy would have reacted if he had been attracted to someone in Jane Fairfax's position -- a well-educated, elegant and accomplished but impoverished gentlewoman. "
I suppose that, would he have met her at a waterplace with Colonel Campbell and his family, that is, in elegance, and fallen in love with her, he would have enquired after her "family and connexions" and found them not to be very high, but not a strong objection against a marriage if he was really in love. But this is maybe going a bit too far in Mr Darcy's character at this moment in the novel? Even considering it till chapter 12?
