|Chapter 6: Col Forster and other officers

The setting is a party at Lucas Lodge. Elizabeth has been "teazing Colonel Forster to give us a ball at Meryton." Is Col Forster single? Does he have "a good fortune"? Is he from the area or ... ?
Later, Mary Bennet obliges her younger sisters by playing some "Scotch and Irish airs." These "younger sisters [presumably Kitty & Lydia] ... with some of the Lucases, and two or three officers, joined eagerly in dancing at one end of the room." So in addition to Col Forster there are other officers -- does the fact that they are dancing imply that they are single? Officers implies what rank? Could they have small fortunes, at least?
The Lucases in this paragraph could be either male or female, I assume, so no info on whether there are more single men in that group. There is no indication, however, that the Lucas sons have any wealth to speak of, so I think they aren't part of my principal focus.
