in consequence of the missive, Is Darcy jealous? (Chapter 3), penned by Srirup
It seems that Darcy is just teasing his friend about dancing with the beautiful Jane (is this the second set of dances that Bingley dances w/ Jane, btw?). Darcy could have danced with her himself if he had wanted to do so -- but he didn't ask for an introduction to any of the ladies, including Jane.
Also note that, according to Mrs Bennet, Bingley dances Elizabeth immediately following his second set w/ Jane, which might have been the set after Darcy's insult. A very gentlemanly action, imo. :-)
