1) First, Cheryl: Our thanks for being such a liberal and accommodating hostess! I have so enjoyed your fascinating trivia and little-known information (to me!) that you have provided along the way. As the gracious moderator, you have given us free reign in discussions and have not "marked" us too closely. This has been the most cordial and civil of ALL the Pemberley group-reads yet.
2) NUTS to David Shapard - Full-speed ahead! What's that all about? Some of his critical remarks towards the close of Persuasion ANNOYED me. While most of the annotations were helpful, his criticisms of Miss Austen's so-called implausibilities in the plot I just waived off and plunged ahead. None of the criticisms, and I mean none of them, ever diminished this masterpiece of work. What do I say to anybody that casts a likewise critical eye on Jane Austen? They wouldn't do better and they frankly COULDN'T do better! Let Jane be Jane.
3) Finally a very heart-felt "Thank you" to all of you fellow Pemberleans who, once again, made such outstanding and constructive comments. My understanding and appreciation of what I STILL consider is Miss Austen's greatest love story (and one of the greatest in all of literature) has been greatly enhanced.
Time really flies when you're having fun. Alas, it is over way too soon! See you in the spring; I shan't miss Northanger Abbey and I hope to see you ALL there....
