Persuade   Written by Kathryn Ann (10/29/2011 3:06 p.m.)
Are you new?

I don't know if anyone else had the experience while reading, but everytime I read the word persuade, persuaded, or persuasion, I thought: Austen uses this word quite a bit in this novel!

I thought to search the novel and see if the words occur more frequently than in the other novels - as surely they must! thought I.

Well, perhaps my search skills are at fault, but I only got through Persuasion, P&P,and Emma, before I gave up. My findings: persuade/d and persuasion are in fact more frequent in the other two novels I looked at, than in Persuasion itself!

So, perhaps it is the power of suggestion of the title, but I was much more sensitive to the idea of persuasion throughout this work! Great title, (even if it was not Jane Austen's choice!)
