The late Mrs Elliot   Written by Mary Skater (10/29/2011 1:39 p.m.)
Are you new?

I'm puzzled about what to make of this lady. We know she was rich and good-looking. Col. Wallis (ch 14) describes her as "certainly not a woman of family, but well educated, accomplished, rich..."

However in Ch 21, Mrs Smith says of her, "a fine woman, had had a decent education," but later calls her "ignorant and giddy."

So far as I know, "ignorant" means "lacking knowledge." How does this fit with the "decent education"?
