That's a very interesting observation about the irony of Elizabeth's preference for fashionable informality and how she would have benefited from an arranged marriage. I think such a marriage would have suited her personally as well as in the worldly and material sense. Notions of real love and affection don't seem to have entered her mind.

Thank you for the account of the Prince Regent's attempt to arrange his daughter's marriage. I love to read all the details from contemporary sources. Sadly, Princess Charlotte's happiness did not last long. She died after giving birth to a stillborn child just eighteen months after her marriage; she was twenty one years old.
