It is obvious that Louisa's accident has altered her disposition. Here's a small quote from Ch 18 and I also think there are a couple of others regarding Louisa's change but I'm too busy to dig for them:

"......The day at Lyme, the fall from the Cobb, might influence her health, her nerves, her courage, her character to the end of her life, as thoroughly as it appeared to have influenced her fate....."

It seems perfectly plausible to me.

Persuasion is full of sweet relationships, isn't it?
