I agree he’s in mourning (according to Shapard the standard mourning period would be one year and Mr. Elliot’s would end by summer) and it is probably inappropriate for him to even allude to such feelings. I wonder if his dropping such a strong hint has anything to do with his seeing Anne in conversation with Captain Wentworth.
