Are you new?

Well, my dear, if you want to save your blushes, then you had best not read this tidbit I found in Morrison, ch. 8, end of note 19!

[] There is also perhaps an amorous pun here in Mrs. Croft's declaration that she knows "nothing supe-rior to the accommodations of a man of war."

I choked on my Dew when I read that. Does Morrison really think that Author Austen was putting lewd wordplay into the mouth of a gentlewoman we are supposed to like, while the character is composedly making drawing room conversation with someone as old-world as Mrs. Musgrove?! Or does Morrison suggest this is an aside from our (unmarried!) author, given with a wink and a giggle, to the bright elves of her audience that can grok it?

I can not believe either.
