I agree. I can see two possibilities for Mr. Elliott praising Anne so highly. One is that he is delighted with Anne in general and making more of her good qualities because of it. The second is that he doesn’t have any such genuine friendships and warm-hearted feelings himself so he misinterprets Anne’s motives.
