I've never really warmed to Lady Russell...   Written by Laura Marie (10/19/2011 4:12 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Lady R as Mother-figure, nurturer, and protector of Anne..., penned by jeffrey
Are you new?

though I do agree one has to appreciate how truly she values and loves Anne, and is really the only one in Anne's immediate circle to do so. I think it bothers me a bit that Lady R doesn't seem to do anything besides love Anne, though; that is it say, she seems to me to be quite a passive, sort of impotent figure. Of course, she isn't actually Anne's mother so there are limitations, but I find it strange, for example, that she never took Anne out into society more. She was instrumental in separating Anne and Wentworth, and yet it doesn't seem that she ever did anything to help put Anne in the way of any other eligible young men, or to at least introduce a little variety into her life to help her get over him!
