Let us recall ...   Written by gianni (10/17/2011 9:55 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, He does not want her, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

... that the cold shoulder was shown at least twice by Anne before Frederick ever saw her -- and we're privy to her schemes to avoid him, regardless of her motive. We're told nothing of any motivation of his, and he certainly knew nothing of her feelings. If anything, his reaction was the more natural and warranted.

Further, I see in no instance anything but correct behavior coming from Frederick. None of your dislike of Frederick's behavior comes from anything in the text except possibly an eager desire to justify Anne's behavior resulting from her feelings.

Yes, I deliberately exaggerated Frederick's point of view; I do indeed believe he was still smarting from Anne's rejection, and I feel that he was frequently overreacting to what he saw -- but, of course, that implies strongly that he still has strong feelings for her, even after eight years. The violent dislike expressed in your message is even more exaggerated, and has much less support in the text than even my favorable exaggeration.

We will, as usual, continue to disagree, and I have nothing more to say in this thread.
