I am sorry, but I can not put the first move to Anne's door.

Frederick had years to reappear in Anne's life, and, according to the mores of the time, Anne had no way to initiate any re-acquaintance. Frankly, a Darcy or a Brandon would have done so.

When Frederick appeared in Mary's kitchen, eight years after he left in an angry, fault-finding snit, you want Anne to start a civil, unemotional chat with him? Well, Tilney or Knightley would have found a way to open a conversation with a young lady of their acquaintance, who needed a gentleman to make her feel easy again.

Anne knows what Frederick is undergoing; does he not know what she is?
