I didn't suppose that I had to explain that the heroes don't rush to marry without really knowing the woman.

The potential problem with Admiral Croft was not that he married the pretty girl, but that he married her in a very short time. Mrs. Croft says that she knew him by character long before they met (through Frederick, perhaps?), but he only says that he knew that she was pretty (of course, he could have known other things about her, too).
