They all marry pretty girls without ill effects. You must be thinking of men who rush to marry "captivated by beauty" and then discover the woman's lack of intelligence, or that she has a bad character, for example.

(Sometimes is the woman who suffers the "ill effects" of marrying the "handsome - but stupid - guy", like Lady Elliot)
