I hadn't thought of it that way, but as I think of it, it isn't obvious that this is the way she should handle their meeting. Why not, on their first meeting, smile and say "how nice to see you again after so long," or at least make some sort of acknowledgment of past acquaintance. Why these separate decisions to pretend they barely knew each other?
