I don't know about the number of widows and widowers. So far we have two widows and two widowers (is Mr. Shepherd a widower?). There are four widows in S&S; three widowers and two widows (maybe more: Mrs. Ford? Mrs. Wallis? Mrs. Goddard?; and we can count also Jane Fairfax's mother) in Emma.
