dominant sister   Written by Nikki N (10/12/2011 7:42 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I guess I never realized that Henrietta was older than Louisa, penned by Ramya
Are you new?

There are several younger sisters who appear to be the more dominant sister in JA -- e.g. Lydia and Kitty (most obvious), Elizabeth and Jane Bennet, Emma and Isabella, and Lucy and Anne Steele in S&S!

I wonder if it is possibly a reflection of JA's own relationship with her sister Cassandra.

Perhaps it is also part of JA's brilliant realism in creating individuality -- she knew that the assumption that an elder sister would be generally dominant is not always so, and that there are younger sisters who are more dominant.
