... for prompting me to really look at the passages in question. I had somehow formed the idea that the first was Anne's thoughts, and Jeffrey had included the second as another; it's now clear that the first was only the narrator, and only the first part of the second was Sophia's, the rest the narrator.

Sorry for the noise. I need to actually read what I'm commenting on. :-(
