Frederick thinks that Anne broke off their engagement to oblige others and considers it to have been the effect of over-persuasion. He accuses her of "weakness and timidity", and could not endure her "feebleness of character".
It is understandable that a person who has been badly hurt should think so negatively, but is he right? Based on what we are told in chapter four, did Anne deserve such criticism, or did she do the right thing at the time when when she ended the engagement?
