I too have long recognized that there is something different the way persuasion is written, but could not lay my finger on it.
In earlier novels the characters 'express themselves suitably' when emotions are being dealt with, or 'cannot make speeches'.
Thanks for this Cheryl. Now we know about this change of writing style on JA's part which makes her quite the first for the second time (there is one in Emma).
